Horseback Riding
Horses and riding play an important part of local tradition. There are several horse riding centres in Dubai, including the Dubai Equestrian Centre, the Jebel Ali Equestrian Club and Club Joumana, the riding stables at Jebel Ali Hotel. Rides through the desert are organised regularly. Dubai also has a riding association for the disabled.
Over the years, horse riding in Dubai is becoming more popular with more facilities available to horse lovers – both staying in and visiting Dubai. Arabian Ranches offers a state-of-the-art equestrian centre for the serious competitor, as well as carefully tended tracks and trails around the Ranches for those with a more relaxed approach to horse riding. The horses at Arabian Ranches are pampered almost as much as its residents. Every four horses have their own groom, and there will be resident trainers, farriers and a vet with access to a fully equipped treatment room. Another residential development aimed at horse lovers is Kaheel – still in the construction phase – which is based around horse riding in Dubai.
Dubailand is also planning a Plantation Equestrian & Polo Club – expected to be one of the world’s largest equestrian facilities, with capacity for 800 horses, plus two luxurious clubhouses and extensive show-jumping, dressage, cross-country, endurance and polo amenities in 14.5 million square feet of landscaped grounds. Horse riding in Dubai is set to become bigger and better than it ever was before.
